The Research and Development Team

The headquarters for the NINES Research and Development team is located in Alderman Library at the University of Virginia.

Research and Development:

JEROME MCGANN

Dr. Jerome McGann is John Stewart Bryan University Professor at the University of Virginia.

ANDREW STAUFFER

Dr. Andrew Stauffer is an Associate Professor of English at the University of Virginia, and the Director of NINES.

BETHANY NOWVISKIE

Dr. Bethany Nowviskie is Senior Advisor for NINES. She conceived and designed the Collex software that powers NINES, and is the Director of Digital Research and Scholarship at the University of Virginia Library.

LAURA MANDELL

Dr. Laura Mandell is the Associate Director of NINES, as well as the Associate Director of our partner-project, 18thConnect, Director of Digital Humanities at Miami of Ohio and the general editor of the Poetess Archive.

DANA WHEELES

Dana Wheeles is the Project Manager for NINES. She is also a doctoral candidate in nineteenth-century art history at the University of Virginia, and a former Project Manager of The Rossetti Archive.

NICK LAIACONA

Nick Laiacona of Performant Software Solutions comes to this work from the computer game industry. At Kesmai Corporation he produced, designed and programmed massively multiplayer online games. Laiacona is the principal developer of Juxta and Ivanhoe.

DUANE GRAN

Duane Gran was a project manager at ARP. He advised developers on software design and formalized requirements for new software.

ERIK HATCHER

Erik Hatcher brings a content-management mindset to the Collex team, as well as expertise in web application development and search engine technologies. He co-authored two books, Java Development with Ant and Lucene in Action, and has written several technology articles.

JAMIE ORCHARD-HAYS

Jamie Orchard-Hays of Dang Development contributed to the design and development of the the NINES Exhibit Builder tool. He delivers presentations about Ruby on Rails in Charlottesville and is very active in the local Ruby community.

DOUG RESIDE

Dr. Doug Reside helped in the design of administrative software for NINES as assistant director of MITH at the University of Maryland.

CARL STAHMER

Dr. Carl Stahmer helped in the design of administrative software for NINES as a research associate with MITH at the University of Maryland.
