Thomas Paine can perhaps in many ways be considered America's forgotten founding father. Names like Jefferson, Washington, and Franklin are far more prominent than Paine's little understood yet vital contributions to the nation's past and present political landscape. With a simple pamphlet, Paine was able to mobilize the majority of the nation to action against the world's most powerful empire at the time. The following articles discuss some of the significant content of Common Sense and the impact that the man's ideas had on a nation.

The rights of man
By carefully critiquing what Paine believed to be some of the most detrimental dysfunctional facets of European government, Thomas Paine constructed the basic ideals and principles that he thought could guide a nation into creating a just and free political system. Rights that modern Americans frequently take for granted as having always existed were really developed and advocated by Paine.

Thomas Paine and the Franklins
This article discusses some of Paine's earliest meetings with one of America's most famous founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin. Despite Franklin's intellectual prowess and impressive background, Paine still managed to influence Franklin with some of his novel political ideas. A man who had an impact on one of America's greatest minds should undoubtedly be placed with some of foremost political ideologues of the day.
